Gov. Cuomo Dubs Biden As “America Tough” At Democratic National Convention

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo recognizes the many issues the United States faces while putting his faith in Joe Biden to lead the nation out of crisis.

As one of the first speakers during day one of the 2020 Democratic National Convention, Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York began by recognizing the challenge that the state faced in regard to the coronavirus. He went on to make a metaphor about the coronavirus revealing many issues the United States faces today.

Gov. Cuomo: “In Many Ways COVID is just a metaphor”

“A virus attacks when the body is weak and when it cannot defend itself,” he began. Cuomo recognized America’s “body politic” as weakened over the last few years of the Trump presidency.

He went to list on the many divisions that he believes grew within that time span, stating, “the anti-Semitism, the anti-Latino, the anti-immigrant fervor, the racism in Charlottesville where the KKK didn’t even bother to wear their hoods and in Minnesota, where the life was squeezed from Mr. Floyd.”

The governor made clear that he did not deem the President one of the causes of the original division in this nation. Instead, he said, “the division created Trump; he only made it worse.” Cuomo referred to our government as “our immune system” and dubbed the Trump administration as “dysfunctional and incompetent.”

Gov. Cuomo: “Staying Away Shows How Close We Actually Are”

The New York Governor ended his speech with a call for Americans to do their part in fighting the coronavirus. He noted that many rose to the occasion and wear masks because they care for one another, and “of course [Americans] will socially distance because staying away shows how close we actually are.” Cuomo said that Americans realized the importance of government and leadership and that a competent government “determines whether we thrive and grow or whether we live or die.”

Gov. Cuomo dubbed the Democratic Presidential Nominee as “America tough… tough in the best way.” In a repetition of Biden’s popular slogan, the Governor confidently claimed that “Joe Biden can restore the soul of America.” Cuomo “prescribed” the United States with someone who can lead, and that person, to Cuomo, is Joe Biden.
