Good Morning DC! It’s Friday and the weekend is around the corner.

Last night, President Biden addressed the nation on the anniversary of the pandemic. His speech was only 20 minutes long to match the attention span of a TV viewer. Biden promised that by May 1 2021, Covid vaccines will be available to every eligible adult in the U.S.

In his first presidential prime-time address, Biden reflected on the past year, and how the “China virus” terminology led to a terrifying spike in hate crimes and  violence against Asian Americans.

The Biden Administration will provide nearly $2.5 billion in funding to address mental illness and addiction crisis across the nation, which has worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following a thank you to the House and the Senate for passing the American Rescue Plan, the President noted that the number one priority of his new Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, will be to “accelerate massive nationwide effort to reopen our schools safely

“We all lost something,” Biden said acknowledging a collective sacrifice we have all experienced.

“Finding light in the darkness is the most American thing to do,” Biden echoed the optimistic spirit of the Founding Fathers. Overall, the President gave a good speech last night, marking a new dawn for America. First Lady Jill Biden was among those who listened to the speech from the back of the room.

Congress finally passed the American Rescue Plan and with Biden’s signature, stimulus checks will start going out this weekend. The historic $1.9 trillion bill will bring much needed relief to small businesses, schools and health care.

“This historic legislation is about rebuilding the backbone of this country, and giving people of this nation, working people, middle-class folks, people who built the country a fighting chance,” Biden said while signing the bill.

Across the pond, Prince Willam’s statement is making headlines this morning. “We are very much not a racist family,” the future King of Britain said in response to Meghan Markle’s allegations.

In the wake of Sarah Everard’s murder, #ReclaimTheStreets trending in Britain to hopes of staging a vigil to protest male violence against women.

From March 15th to the 18th Secretary of State Blinken will travel to Tokyo, Japan, and Seoul, Republic of Korea, to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to the Indo-Pacific region.

Pictures of Lady Gaga and Adam Driver’s Gucci movie practically broke the internet this week. Dressed in soft-chic winter costumes, the two actors’ chemistry oozed off the set and onto the camera lens. So, it’s easy to say that we are anxiously awaiting the release of their movie House of Gucci.

What will Biden do today? Biden and Harris will meet with the leaders of the Quad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia, and Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga of Japan.

At 11:15 AM EST White House COVID-19 Response Team will hold the press briefing.

At 12:00 PM  EST, Jen Psaki and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will brief the press. s

And that’s a wrap for this Friday morning, March 12, 2021. Good Morning DC will be here tomorrow to bring you the latest first.
