#GoodMorningDC. At least ten were killed in a shooting at a Kings Soopers in Colorado.
Good Morning DC! Rise and shine this Tuesday morning, we have a lot of news to cover.
A shooting in a Kings Soopers at Boulder, Colorado left at least ten dead, including one police officer. Boulder police confirmed that a suspect has been detained and was taken to a nearby hospital for injuries sustained during the shooting. Given that the investigation is just beginning, officials said that they don’t know many of the details, including motive, type of weapon or if there were multiple shooters.
“This is a tragedy and a nightmare for Boulder County,” said Michael Dougherty, Boulder County’s district attorney, Michael Dougherty.
The US trial has confirmed that AstraZeneca is safe and effective to use. There's nothing like an opportunity to choose an antidote to prevent getting infected with COVID-19, just a year ago, hopes for any vaccine to get developed rapidly were grim. Now, we can choose between several great vaccines, perhaps a reminder that politicians should never put politics before people again.
Last night, Trump was interviewed by Greg Kelly on Newsmax. “They like to blame President Trump for everything,” he shared his third-person grievances. The former president is keeping the public's eyes on him, with a new podcast interview with Lisa Boothe and Newsmax TV appearances all happening in the last 24 hours. “I put out a statement, it’s much more elegant than a tweet. It goes on Twitter anyway because thousands of people pick it up,” Trump said about his life without Twitter.
Trump is planning for a big comeback he confirmed on Boothe’s podcast with his very own social media network that he will launch within weeks. On vaccine development, Trump said that his administration saved millions of lives. “It would have taken five years for another president, a guy like [Biden], for the vaccine to be approved. It goes from five to 12 years. I got it done in nine months.”
As the press went to unearth Meghan and Harry's wedding certificate, her truth told to Oprah turned out to have no legs to stand on. The Duchess, who was successful in rallying cancel culture against anyone who was not ready to believe her, does not have receipts to support her claims. Culture clash or not, facts don’t lie.
The crisis at the border is only getting louder, and to the disbelief of the Biden administration, the clamor is coming from the legacy media. No one wants to be excluded from getting pictures of immigrant detention centers, so the unflattering material is leaking, making everything look much worse than it is. Having zero access pissed off the DC press who, for decades, championed access journalism. Biden does not understand that the media changed during the four years of Trump, so much so that it is tough to apply the old world rules of handling the press to the new times.
The United States is deeply concerned by the recent escalation of violence in northeast Syria. “We call on all parties to de-escalate and adhere to the UN’s call for a nationwide ceasefire,” said Ned Price, Spokesperson of the State Department.
As China and Russia are teaming up against the United States, it is becoming a key piece of geopolitical news to watch. “These objective developments, which are leading to the formation of a truly multipolar and democratic world, are unfortunately being hindered by western countries, particularly the United States,” Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview he gave on his visit to China.
Across the pond, Tuesday’s Daily EXPRESS headlines, “Boris Warns Europe’s 3rd Wave Will Hit UK.” Daily MIRROR features the coronavirus alert on the front page, “3rd Wave Fears.” Hoping to travel? “Overseas travel ban extended until July,” writes Times. In fact, Britons are likely to face, “£5,000 Fine For Holidays Abroad” according to Daily Mail.
It’s interesting how much you can learn about the country by just glossing over the front-page headlines.
What will Biden do today? At 1:20 PM EST, the President will travel to Columbus, Ohio as part of the “Help Is Here” tour. He will talk about the American Rescue Plan and its effect on lower health care costs for American families. The President will tour the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute and is slated to deliver remarks on the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act being signed into law.
At 7:40 PM EST, the President will be back at the White House.
A DASH OF POP
Kylie Jenner, the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, is under fire after asking fans to donate money to a GoFundMe for her makeup artist’s medical bills after an accident. Jenner donated just $5,000, but she has enough money to just pay the bills herself. Asking her fans to pay the money for her, seems to have gotten her in some hot (or, you know, boiling) water.
“Remember when Lady Gaga paid her dog walkers medical bills in full? Kylie Jenner could never,” one user tweeted.
Yet, according to a source that spoke by Page Six, Jenner only posted $5,000 dollars when the GoFundMe goal was $10,000 with $6,000 already paid. If true, this would explain her cheap (given her monetary situation that is) donation since her donation would put the amount over the goal. There is nothing to back this up, so honestly, at this point, trust who you want.
Mark Cuban shared some start-up success wisdom on the Starting Greatness podcast. “There was a time when people would try to use their office as a way to show they are successful,” Cuban pointed out as a big no-no for the future of business.
