#GoodMorningDC, how will Trump be remembered?
Good Morning DC.
Republicans are flocking to Telegram, a once-favorite hangout spot of terrorists, being the encrypted app-of-choice. When people sign up for Telegram, they are automatically placed on government watch, grouping themselves with individuals no one in their right mind would want to associate with. A wise Congressman or -woman should know better than to invite Americans to follow them to Telegram.
Riley June Williams, a young woman accused of stealing Speaker Pelosi‘s laptop, has been arrested. Williams was charged with entering a restricted building without lawful authority, violent entry, and disorderly conduct on Capitol Grounds. What the FBI is chiefly interested in is investigating the suspicion that Williams intended to sell Pelosi’s laptop to Russian Foreign Intelligence Services through a friend. Still, the plan, for an unknown reason, has so far fallen through. “Williams still has the computer device or destroyed it,” the arrest warrant confirms.
Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s Deputy Chief of Staff, confirmed that the laptop was only used for presentations.
Hilary Clinton has spoken. Again. She is calling on Congress to "establish an investigative body like the 9/11 Commission to determine Trump's ties to Putin, so we can repair the damage to our national security and prevent a puppet from occupying the presidency ever again." George Conway agrees. On Clinton’s podcast with Pelosi, she said she would like to see Trump's phone records and determine if he spoke to Putin on January 6th. "With you, President, all roads lead to Putin," Pelosi recalled her words to Trump. The House Speaker confirmed that the 9/11 Commission should be established, and there is strong support in Congress.
A Second impeachment won't cut it, apparently, for Pelosi, and the Mueller investigation could not do so. How will all of this fit Biden's agenda to bring a ruptured America back together? It's yet to be seen.
While the Democrats and The Lincoln Project are calling for a kind of 9/11 Commission, Trump’s loyalist Lindsey Graham shifts the blame onto Nancy Pelosi for the security failure at the US Capitol. “How the hell could that happen,” asked Graham on Fox news. “Where was Nancy Pelosi? It is her job to provide Capitol security. We’ll get to the bottom of this,” Graham added.
Trump removed travel restrictions last night between the US and the UK, the EU, Brazil, and Ireland. To that, incoming Press Sec Jen Psaki immediately responded by stating that "this is not the time to be lifting restrictions on international travel."
Joe Biden intends to reverse the lift Trump made and "strengthen public measures around international travel." It is unclear how much Joe Biden wants to increase those, as the travel is minimal and only allowed for US citizens and green card holders, and everyone who comes in is required to present a negative covid test.
Across the pond, in the UK, Matt Hancock is self-isolating until Sunday after the NHS COVID-19 app alerted him of exposure.
“Last night I was alerted by the NHS COVID-19 app to self-isolate, so I’ll be staying at home and not leaving at all until Sunday,” the Health Secretary said.
We all have a part to play in getting this virus under control.
Trump also issued an EO on protecting the USA from unmanned aircraft systems. Are the aliens among us?
Today, President Trump will release a video of his accomplishments as the American President from the past four years.
America may not think much of her, but Melania Trump released a farewell video yesterday before her husband. “Be passionate in everything you do, but always remember that violence is never the answer and will never be justified,” she said.
Russia's critic Alexey Navalny called on his supporters to protest on the streets after he was detained. Western leaders call for his release, with Dominic Raab issuing a message.
“It is appalling that Alexey Navalny, the victim of a despicable crime, has been detained by Russian authorities. He must be immediately released,” Raab stated.
“Rather than persecuting Mr. Navalny, Russia should explain how a chemical weapon came to be used on Russian soil,” the UK Foreign Secretary added.
After Kamala's politics-meets-fashion Vogue episode, designers are again the talk of the town. Biden will be wearing Ralph Lauren on Inauguration Day.
Today marks President Trump’s last day in office, and, according to the latest Gallup Poll, Trump leaves with an all-time low approval rating of 34%. How will we remember Trump? “Of all the things I hold in high regard, rules are not one of them,” once said Frank Underwood. One day to go until the lights go out, but, for some, a day can be a long time. Tick tock. Until next time. Tick Tock. Until life after Trump. One president out, another in. Flash forward to a happy ending. If only it could be that simple. As Washington wakes up to Good Morning DC, one thing is certain in this town. The news never sleeps.
