After a five-day investigation, a body was found under Lake Piru, who local authorities believe is the body of actress, Naya Rivera. She disappeared after she went on an outing on the lake with her 4-year-old son five days ago.
Yesterday, on Monday, July 13, local authorities found the body of Glee actress, Naya Rivera, floating on Lake Piru in Southern California after an arduous 5-day search. Local authorities involved in the investigation believe that Naya saved her son from the currents and placed him on the boat in a life vest, before succumbing to the tide. While there is no evidence of foul place or suicide, Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub says that an autopsy is under way to confirm the body’s identity and cause of death.
On July 8, Naya and her son went on a boat trip out on the lake. That same day, fellow boaters found the small boy, Josey Dorsey, by himself, asleep on a boat in the middle of the lake. Alarmed, the boaters called local authorities. They narrated that the boy wore a life vest, and there was an unused adult life vest next to him in the boat. They found out the mother of the 4-year-old boy, Josey, was the 33-year-old singer and actress, Naya Rivera.
Naya’s son, Josey, who is just short of 5 years of age, described to Sheriff Ayub that he and his mom swam in the lake together at some point that day. He continued that his mom helped him into the boat by boosting him onto the deck from behind. When he looked back at his mom, he saw her disappear under the surface of the water.
Sheriff Ayub said that at the time of the day when the investigation started, “there are a lot of currents on the lake that appear particularly in the afternoon.” After a body was found, he explained how he believes that Naya disappeared: “The idea perhaps being that the boat started drifting, it was un-anchored, and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat, but not enough to save herself.”
Naya played Santana Lopez on Glee, a TV show that spanned six seasons. Actor Chris Colfer, who played the character of Kurt Hummel on Glee, wrote, "how can you convey all your love and respect for someone in one post? How can you summarize a decade of friendship and laughter with words alone?
If you were friends with Naya Rivera, you simply can’t. Her brilliance and humor were unmatched. Her beauty and talent were otherworldly. She spoke truth to power with poise and fearlessness. She could turn a bad day into a great day with a single remark. She inspired and uplifted people without even trying. Being close to her was both a badge of honor and a suit of armor. Naya was truly one of a kind, and she always will be."
