Watch LIVE: Tensions rise at Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota, as protestors block the entrance to Trump's event. 

Protesters at Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, have slashed the tires on vans and are blocking the entrance to Trump's event where he is scheduled to speak tonight ahead of the 4th of July. The situation continues to develop as in addition to police, the National Guard is present on the ground with gas masks on and riot shields.

The president is scheduled to give his remarks tonight at 8 PM local time and is currently on AF1 on his way to South Dakota. Earlier today Trump shared his expectations of the event. 


President Trump: We're going to Mount Rushmore. Mount Rushmore is in great shape and it's going to be in great shape for centuries to come. Looking forward to it. ... I'll be making a speech there. I'll be seeing a lot of people a lot of different people and I think it will be a fantastic evening
